somehow this seems nostalgic to me

Faith is …

October 28, 2009

“When you come to the edge of all the light you know and are about to step off into the darkness of the unknown, faith is knowing one of two things will happen: there will be something solid to stand on or you will be taught how to fly”

- Barbara J. Winter

irony (or FAIL!)

October 20, 2009

i don’t normally take the MRT, but the other day, i took the NE line from Dhoby Ghaut and had about 2 min to stand before my driverless train would reach. so in those two mins, with my iPod on, i looked around. my eyes soon found this:

DSC00833at first glance, it doesn’t seem anything more than singapore’s favourite tv character Phua Choo Kang teaching singaporeans how to use the trains in a civil manner.

but if you were to look closer, you would find the irony of what was going on:

DSC00832the ad on the sides of the doors were about speaking good english, and yet right smack in the center of that was PCK going, “don’t play, play” !!!

i didn’t know if i should laugh or shake my head.

and so the debate on singapore english must continue on.

birthdays

October 20, 2009

october is birthday month. there’s a massive number of people who were born in the month. here’s just a sampling from photos that i remembered to take!

DSC00776 1. Elgin Quek. HRC. it was a great night to hang and chat and laugh and talk. even tho the rest came later, it was eventful. :D

DSC008212. Joel Mok. was a great evening together – talking about the old days (haha, makes me sound super old huh) but i’ve known this dude for 22 years now! :D and it was a really great night. we talked, laughed, and made fun of stuff, and shared – really. i guess it’s just different when you’ve known someone that long!

3. Fan – back at HRC! poor guy got hauled to the stage. the crowd at lunch that day weren’t that enthusiastic about his birthday, but it turned out ok – at least he now has a HRC story to tell. was a great afternoon hanging out and sharing and talking and stuff!

a bugs adventure on a Bug

October 20, 2009

this morning as i got into the car, i noticed on my windscreen some activity. it was a red ant that had locked in its jaw, a bee, caught by one leg.

DSC00834

and it seemed that this ant was not going to let go, no matter what! i have no idea how this ant firstly even caught the bee, but it found a way to firmly plant its feet onthe windscreen, and it kept it’s jaw firmly closed on the poor bee’s leg.

consider the struggle…

i thought that at least the journey on the expressway would dislodge them. But it didn’t.

then suddenly, about three quarters of the way down the e’way, i noticed that the insects had disappeared. in my minds eye i saw them fly off my windscreen, but that little red ant still had firmly in its jaw, the bee’s leg.

when i parked, and got myself out of the car, lo and behold, i found the ant and the bee, on the roof my car – still struggling.

now that’s perseverance.

Q8 by SAM

October 17, 2009

i think it was last wednesday, that i decided to do something i haven’t done in a really long time, and that was to go to a museum. so i went to Q8. i had first heard about Q8 from David, who runs “Food for Thought” – the cafe. They are opening another cafe at Q8.

i had just finished playing badminton with Terence, so he ended up going with me – i hope not under duress!

here are some pics from that day.

DSC007381. outside the building. i don’t really know (yet) why it’s called Q8. it’s been around for about a year already. and it’s really near the office. the red funny shaped building on the left is where Food For Thought will be opening their second outlet.

DSC007392. since we were at a modern art museum, i decided to do some modern art of my own! here’s my photograph entitled “multiple shadows persons” – is the real person is made up of  multiple sides, multiple shadows?

DSC007403. the room with the book chained.

DSC007464. in the pillar of light

DSC007485. a wall of words

DSC007506. pages on the wall

DSC007517. there was a room where you could draw stuff and add it to the room – anything really – stuff that you were thinking about, stuff that was bothering you, or anything really. so i did this… “i wish i could plan ahead” .. get it get it!! haha, and then i stuck it on the wall with the other pieces. the whole room was filled with pieces that others had done. terence drew a happy, smiling robot face!

a new season @ church last weekend

October 13, 2009

so things around here are seasonal.
remember the board games era?
the dancing weekends?
the table tennis era?
and even the time when people came around church to study!??!!? (my faith was reinforced that there truly must be a God in those seasons!!)

well, last weekend, the guys got together and did their IPPT and fitness regimes in church.

this pic was of the gang trying to see who could last longest.
jpaul was in a league of his own.
his cocky-ness however, is ..well, legendary!! to say the least.
there was the inclined arm flex from a chair. (i think mark john holds the record) and the shuttle run.

let’s see how long this will go for around here.
the circle of pain!
