“Christianity is the only major religion to have as it’s central event the humiliation of its God.” – Bruce L.Shelley
i didn’t have that much of an expectation heading to this exhibition. i wanted to see it, but only if i had the time. but then some friends said they want to go too. so we set a date and a time and we went – even though it rained cats and dogs, but nonetheless, we went, albeit a little later than planned.
the first sign that perhaps it was going to be a good experience was finding a parking lot. if you’ve ever tried finding public parking behind Victoria Concert Hall/Theatre, and if you’re me, you NEVER get a lot. this day, i got a lot, and a good lot at that, and an easy lot to part into (not that i have trouble parallel parking of course!). but then i realised that i didn’t have any more parking coupons. i hate to leave my car without doing thing properly. but i had little choice this time, and so i left her without parking coupons and went for the exhibition.
the collection of the dead sea scrolls themselves isn’t massive, though it’s implication and significance has been called the ‘greatest archaeological find of the 20th Century’! but it was the ‘other’ exhibits too that really ’spoke’ to me. standing in one room with the first printed bible ahead of me, and the first king james behind me, a picture of queen elizabeth I who made it incredibly hard for those who wanted to have the bible in their language, i suddenly felt overwhelmed at the history behind me – real people who were passionate about the Word of God that they had risked their lives for it. But what did it for me was the realisation that God Himself has been watching over His Word, and no fire, no King or Queen, no lack of invention or no new invention, no popular thought or cultural biases would stop Him from getting His Word to me. Through history, their story – Tyndale, Bunyan, Luther, Erasmus Calvin connected with my story. And today i am her keeper. And i have a responsibility to the next generation – to teach and inspire them to read and understand, and like these men before me, find themselves compelled to protect and teach and ultimately live out His Word, not out of duty, but out of LOVE.
The three mini lectures were well worth the listen. For in their narrative, i found myself amazed at the goodness of God, that looked after His Word against incredible odds, so that i would not be left without His guidance, and without a way to know Him, personally and intimately.
my prayer is that i do as noble a job as these that the next generation will come to know and Love His Word too.
for this God, i desire to commit.
and for this, i pray earnestly for Your help.
there is nothing like coming home and receiving a parcel (from overseas)! and what more if it’s in aqua!!! hooooo!

Scripture: Proverbs 28:9 (MSG) | God has no use for the prayers of the people who won’t listen to him.
wow.
it’s amazing how often we want God to listen to us. We want God to listen to our prayers. But in actual fact, we have no real desire to listen to Him, or to be committed to what He has to say to us. it’s absolutely fair for God to say our prayers are useless if our expectation is to have God respond to us,when we have no intent on listening or responding to Him.
“Nourish in your heart, a lively longing for God”
- from the cloud of unknowning
there is a line from Psalms 51 in the Message bible that is just so awesome:
“shape a Genesis week from the chaos of my life”
quite often our week, or day can feel like chaos, disorder, confusion. But we have a God who isn’t afraid of that mess. We have a God who is able to bring order, to bring purpose, to bring life, to highlight what is important for us. like the opening chapters of Genesis 1 – God can bring newness, and order out of the chaos and confusion of our days!
YEAH!

we start a new series at church this weekend simply called “Worship”. and we’re thrilled to have Ps Neli Atiga from Every Nation Church, Singapore and Ps Rosaleen Goh from FGA KL to co-teach the series!
also as part of this series, on the 29th of May, at our church, we’re going to have A Worship Concert night. it’ll be awesome! and we’re believing for a fresh outpouring as we bring our best to pour out before Him.

Find your own Calcutta
July 29, 2009a young agnes left ireland with 3 cents and a call of God to start an orphanage. her superiors told her she couldn’t do it – not with 3 cents. she said her three cents and God would be more than enough, and she left.
some years later, God used this little girl with nothing but the desire to be obedient to God, to be one of the most recognizable faces on the planet and to win a nobel prize for peace.
what made her go? passion.
what kept her? passion.
she got mad. she got sad. and she got glad.
at what she saw.
and then turned that into action.
many a time people would come up to her and ask her how can they make such a difference like she had.
her answer was always the same.
